think4D a Brand of Friesens Corporation, is a packaging company. Our parent company Friesens is a 113-year old employee-owned book, yearbook, and packaging solutions provider. Though located in a small Southern Manitoba town, we have a worldwide customer base and are passionate about supporting the community through participation in many local initiatives.
As Covid-19 hit, restaurants and service establishments were closed with only essential services open on a limited basis. While this story is not new, many communities worldwide have had similar heart-wrenching experiences that are hard to watch. Our “big little” company decided not to stand back and watch as things fell apart around us. We needed to do something to change the narrative.
Our first response - “Keep our employee-owners whole.” There has never been a more critical time to be employee-owned. While millions of people lost their jobs, we did not have one layoff. This probably would not happen if we were owned by a multi-national company or private investor.
Second response - Our pay-it-forward campaign. To support local entrepreneurs through the crisis, Friesens ran an in-house promotion called ‘Take Out to Help Out’, offering staff members a $10 discount at local restaurants. Nearly 200 employees ordered take-out or delivery from these businesses. The first of a few local initiatives that would inject money into the local economy.
Third response – diversify. We have always been a company that looks for opportunities to expand and grow. A new idea formulated from a slow production line: sell planter saucers with additional design elements. Introducing one of think4D’s newest thermoform creations: The Planter Saucer.
